The genus Corynactis contains many species, but the validity of most of them is still unknown. Corynactis carnea is a common species often occurring along Pacific and Atlantic coasts of South America, Corynactis chilensis described from Chile might be a synonym of this species. This small species is often very abundant and numerous small specimens of this species may completely occupy vast areas (photo below). Corynactis viridis is a similar European species.
