According to Manuel (1988) Cereus pedunculatus is "equally at home on hard substrata or buried in mud or sand." This species is characterized by wide oral disc and short and very numerous tentacles. Cereus pedunculatus distributed in west Europe and in Mediterranean. Cereus herpetodes is a related species from Chile.
